I am laying out a book with front matter numbered with Roman numerals and the rest numbered with Arabic numerals. When I made the second section it automatically started it as a right hand page but I want it to begin on the left side. I cannot figure out how to make this happen! There is a lot of advice online about beginning an entire document with the first page on the left but I can't find anything about my problem. FYI, the document is set up with Facing Pages and Master Text Frame activated. I'm attaching a screen shot of my pages where the first and second section meet. I want that "1" to be on the left in the empty space and have where it says "1" now be "2". Help?? Thanks.
Default page position in a facing pages document depends on the page number assigned. InDesign respects convention and puts odd-numbered pages on the right with books that use left-hand binding because that's what readers expect.
You can defeat this by disabling page shuffling, but your readers will not like it.
Add a blank page after page vi.
Oh, right, I guess that makes sense, Peter. I'll have to talk to rethink priorities! I may just add a blank, as Ian suggests. Thanks to you both!
