Recently, InDesign CC on my Mac has started periodically spiking CPU use for no decernible reason. When sitting idle with no documents open, ID will use anywhere from 100–190% of CPU; when in use with a document open, this will shoot up to 200–290%. This, of course, creates a lot of heat which spikes the fans. The spikes occur with regularity, usually about every 10 minutes.
It's very concerning when my laptop's fans run at full speed for hours at a time when the work load should be small. The fact that it uses so much CPU time when sitting idle is clearly a problem.
What is happening and how can I remediate it? I would rather not cook eggs on my machine.
