Could you please let me know the version of Lightroom installed on your computer ?
Also which operating system are you working on ,Windows or MAC ?
I am having the same difficulty.
I just upgraded to Lightroom CC on my IMac with OS X Yosemite version 10.10.5.. The program freezes up quite often. Looking forward to answers.
Could you please check and make sure Lightroom is updated to the current version of Lightroom 2015.4
Also please try:
- Go to Lightroom > Preferences.
- Also please Go to the Preferences > Performance Tab, and uncheck "Use Graphics Processor "
- Restart Lightroom and see if it works.
I'm giving this a try and will update you on its effectiveness.
But PLEASE tell me what I am losing by not using the GPU?
In theory you are losing the speed of the hardware acceleration.
In practice, this being version 1 of the LR video acceleration code, there are bugs to work out. Sometimes doing all the work in the software is faster depending on your video card and its drivers.
What about for Lightroom 5? I'm having the same issues but with Lightroom 5.7.1 which is supposedly the most up to date version for 5.
Turning the GPU off seems to be working. No freeze ups yet
Your answer to my question as to what difference there is between using the GPU and not using it needs translation for a non-techie person (me). Appreciate it, thanks
Graphics work can be done by the hardware (your video card) or by the software. The hardware is faster.
It would be like using a calculator to do long division of large numbers instead of doing it by hand.
Start a new thread and describe your problem in great detail.
I already have a new thread started with details. "Greyed thumbnails and Lightroom not importing photos"
VERY frustrating. What is this talk about graphics cards? How do I check to make sure it's running on the hardware and not software end of things?
Thanks for the explanation, problem seems to be resolved.
LR 5 does not have any hardware acceleration in it. That is a new feature of LR 6.
