If this is on a Mac, no. Anything prior to LR 6.4/2015.4 won’t tether Nikon on El Capitan.
Apple removed some obsolete functions that Nikon & Leica tethering were using and Nikon finally updated their code in December and the next LR released after that the x.4 version used that new code. Previous versions use the old Nikon code and won’t work on El Capitan.
If you’re on Windows, then I don’t know of a LR-version reason that tethering wouldn’t work.
Its as ssprengel says if you need to tether a Nikon Camera in Lightroom and OSX El Capitan you will need to upgrade to LR CC 2015.4 or LR 6.4.
To wit its not a Lightroom issue, Nikon dropped the ball with the release of Mac OSX El Capitan.

I was saying, I have a mac running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. My girlfriend has OS X 10.7.5.
So the issue is Nikon/Mac related not Lightroom?
We will just have to live with tethering to my Mac?
Thanks for your help!
