    MPEG-2 TS file input error

    donm26210672

I have Premeier Elements 13 running on Windows 7.

I have imported MPEG-2 TS Video but I just get 'Media Pending' on the monitor. At the bottom in the Events Window there is the error message:- A low-level exception occurred in: ImporterFastMPEG (Importer)

According to the spec for Elements 13 it should be able to import MPEG-2 TS video files.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?

If your MPEG is not from a camcorder, where did it come from? What resolution is it?

Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirements?

How long is your video file?

Windows 7 does not install all updates automatically. Manually go to Windows Update and install the non-critical updates that don't install automatically.

The MPEG is from a programme recorded on my PVR.

I don't know the resolution but the frame width is 544 and the height is 576 if that means anything. I recorded it in Standard Definition.

I can't see Quicktime in my list of programs but I do have Quicktime movies (.MOV) in the system.

The video file is 39 mins long.

I have installed all the non-critical Windows Updates.

You'll need to crack open a sample of that MPEG then to see what's inside.

Open one of your MPEGs in G Spot or, better, Media Info (free downloads) and post the resolution, frame rate and audio and video codecs listed. Media Info may also list the media writer that was used.

Personal video recorder software can use some very unconventional resolutions, frame rate and codecs (Happauge is notorious for being problematic) and it's possible you've got a file Premiere Elements simply can't digest.

PVR means personal video recorder and records tv to hdd instead of dvd.

Mpeg-ts is not meant to be edited, it is meant to be watched on the tv.

Thanks for the information but I thought MPEG-2 TS files were suitable for input.

                      Mpeg is but not mpeg2_TS.

                        There are so much flavours.

Aside from the non-standard pixel aspect ratio of .85 and the non-standard resolution of 544x576 (rather than the standard PAL resolution of 720x576), I don't see anything that would cause the program to reject the file outright. The program will likely have trouble editing this video, but it shouldn't just choke.

This is certainly not the best program for editing this video. However, I don't see anything in this report that would indicate a terminal issue.

Have you considered editing this video in Windows MovieMaker rather than Premiere Elements? MovieMaker isn't nearly as powerful, but it can handle a wider range of video formats.

                            Last resort:

convert mpeg to mp4 with HandBrake  and reimport

See if that will make a difference

Thanks for your help and advice. I'll try Windows Movie Maker but I think the best route for me would be to convert the file into one that's acceptable to Premier Elements.

I've converted the file to mp4 and it worked fine. Thanks.
