We had a flood in our basement and the computer got ruined.
I was running version 7 or 8 of Elements - kept meaning to upgrade but didn't.
I have a back up.
Is there a "upgrade cost" that is less expensive than the new purchase cost?
Will I have problems restoring a version 8 backup file in the newest version?
The "upgrade" is just a special price that Adobe offers to its current Premiere Elements users. You may be able to find the program cheaper on Amazon or eBay.
You say you have your computer backed up. That's great news -- especially if the Organizer backed up your media files. If you used another program to back up your computer, you'll need to use it to restore your backup to your new computer. And, hopefully, among your backed up files will be the catalog for your Organizer as well as your 30,000 media files.
I can't say for sure that version 14 or a newer version of Premiere Elements will be able to read and update your version 8 catalog, but it's possible. Certainly worth a try.
Thanks a lot for the advice.
