What type of image is this, vector or bitmap? If it's a simple vector: instead of "placing" it into InDesign, open it in Illustrator and copy the vectors, then paste them into InDesign. Then you can use any of the enclosed paths as a container 'mask' for any image. (You may need to ungroup and/or break up combined paths first.)
If you would draw it in Ijustrator and copy and paste it would create a frame where you can place images. Maybe, that several paths should be combined.
If you have raster images only, like from Photoshop,
- select them,
- Object > Clipping Path > Options…
- Detect edges
- Object > Clipping Path > Convert Clipping Path to Frame
- Exchange content.
Yeah! Illustrator was a good tool for this, I realized. it saved me a lot of time using image trace, and then just drag and drop to indesign.
thanks for the help guys
