I have a folder with 1500 photos inside. They are organized into a 15 separate folders. I want to remove them from their current catalog and add them to a different one. I understand how to export them as a catalog but when I do that will they still be in their organized folders or will they all be inside of one? I hope that makes sense.
Yes they will remain in their original folders once you export them as a catalog.
It will create a new exported catalog with the folder or files that you will choose in the same hierarchy as they are now and the original catalog will also remain intact.
First understand that your photos are not in a catalog!
A Catalog is just a database that has information about your images.
Your images must remain exactly in the 15 separate folders where they are now. Do nothing to these original image files! Do not re-import any images into Lightroom!
You will be just transferring DATABASE information from one catalog to the other. A to B.
So as a simple answer-
1. In Catalog "A" select the 1500 photos and "Export AS A CATALOG". (Give it a temporary name eg. TEMP )
2. In Catalog "B" "Import FROM ANOTHER CATALOG" (Choose the temporary catalog "TEMP")
You can delete the TEMP catalog when the transfer is achieved.
