The images could be anything -- check the links panel.
What you see (and copy) is just the screen preview, not the actual image data.
When you put an image into INDD you are telling it where to find it. INDD Creates a box or "window" to that file. It doesnt embed that image. So if you move or delete images from your computer INDD doesnt know where they are and will give you a LINK error or missing image. BUT it will still give you the preview of that image (screen dump) within the box you originally created.
