Not sure what exactly happened but may be we can try to dig into that.
Which version of Lightroom do you have?
Could you please share a screenshot of your images grid in Lightroom so that we can have a better view for further assistance.
I have 6.0
I am sorry, I have no clue how to do a screenshot...
Refer this thread for capturing screenshot : The specified item was not found.
Is there a way to reset EVERTHING? because it was working perfectly fine before he hit my keyboard while i was editing. I never had any presets on here. I thought by removing lightroom then downloading it NEW again onto the computer would help, but! no, it was like i had done nothing at all...same pictures were all there. Initially when i got 6.0 as an upgrade, it asked me which catalogs to bring it...this time, they were already loaded in. Im so lost. I can't figure out what could have changed...it was working just fine. another difference is that when I click on a photo is takes MUCH LONGER to load the full image initially than it used to. Then I just sit there and watch as it changes it to this odd light grainy image. So unusual!
When you reinstall the Lightroom program, it keeps your catalog intact and due to that reason you had everything as is even after reinstallation.
If you would reset adjustments, you might loose the edits that you did so far.
What I would suggest here is to load your backup catalog that you backed up prior to this happening as that catalog should contain all edits and everything should be fine.
Do you take backups for your Lightroom catalog regularly?
no, i never backup
I already saved the pictures I had been working on before this change started happening...is there any way to delete out all the old catalogs and start fresh? which is what I thought I was doing when I removed lightroom and redownloaded it....
and!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR HELPING ME!!!!
Thanks for sharing the screenshot.
You should always backup your catalog to avoid extra work in these type of circumstances.
Select that image and go to develop module > check under history panel and confirm if you applied those edits.
If not, click on reset button on bottom right in develop module and let me know if that is how you want all those 489 images to look like. that is, the way they were imported without any edits.
Okay, there is no history except for the import. and reset does nothing. These were the first 2 steps I took initially when it started happening. Here is another screen shot. I have opened the pics with the nikon software which I NEVER use just to confirm that it wasnt something with my imac or something with my photos...the photo you see in Nikons software is what they looked like in lightroom before the weird change...And I can confirm that they all looked like this before my son his the keyboard and evrything went wacky...
That seems odd if there is nothing in the history panel.
Then, yes I believe the only option is to remove last imported images and re-import them.
I would suggest you to follow the below steps :
- Go to Catalog settings > change backup prompt to "every time Lightroom exits"
- Quit Lightroom and take backup
- Relaunch Lightroom
- Select "Previous Import" in Library module under Catalog panel
- Press control/command + a to select all images in that previous import > go to Photo menu > choose remove photos > choose remove (do not choose delete as that would delete the original images from your hard drive)
- Reimport those set of images from you hard drive
I have actually tried doing that TWICE with no resolve. it just changes them right after I import them back in.
I just attempted to create a NEW CATALOG and again...same thing happens when i import the photos. Ive even tried reimporting them FROM MY CAMERA.
I am at a complete loss here...its been working fine all along and now its not. Lightroom refuses to help me on the phone or via chat. they insist it can be resolved on these forums...I do not see a solution. It seems my lightroom is messed up for good...horrible!
If its happening with every catalog, then it is something else.
Go to Lightroom Preferences > Performance > uncheck "use graphics processor' > try to reimport and then, check.
no, the graphics processor option didnt work either.
Lightroom is still changing all the images
When you import raw photos, Lightroom first shows you the preview that your camera embedded in the file, and then it renders the raw data in its own way. The two can look quite different. To see photos in something closer to the way the camera would have shown them if you had taken a JPEG instead of a raw file, experiment with the choices available in the 'Profile' dropdown in the Camera Calibration panel in the Develop module.
Here's an explanation: Why did Lr 'ruin' my picture? | Lightroom Forums
I already read all that, and Im aware of that and it is not the issue right now. I was in the middle of an editing session and this issue started happening after my son slammed my keyboard and lightroom started doing strange things to my photos. This seems to be the 'answer' everyone else is given, but I do not think it applies to what is going on with my pictures...i have been using it for months with no trouble. I even started editing this group of pictures and I was literally at my computer working on editing when it started doing the changes right before my eyes. something changed when he hit the keyboard. I have no clue what that is. ive exhausted all efforts...im completely at a loss..????
In your reply #7 screenshot all of the folders from the 489 image file "previous import" Import have ? icons on them. This is an indication that the folders (and files inside them) were moved outside of LR and are no longer at the location from here they were imported.
Here's how to reconnect them:
