Export as a Catalog....etc-
Consider the laptop to be only temporary use of the master catalog, because 'syncing' between two computers is not really possible with Lightroom.
The Exported catalog may only contain a select few images (eg. a Collection) but you do need to bring the exported catalog back into the desktop to allow the edits to return to the desktop master catalog.
Some of the concepts are to be found in this video-
Ms Kost talks about creating a new empty 'travel' catalog, but the method still applies to an exported catalog.
Thank you for your reply I have just @ managed to load my catalog & smart previews to my laptop via one drive, the problem I had was finding the correct path for the files to be uploaded. After watching the above videos it gave me a few ideas for me to try & at the moment it all seems ok. More questions as I progress probably,
What are you trying to achieve??
I have my catalog on a fast external drive and images on another (well multiple) external drives. With this I can jst plug and play between my two laptops with no exporting/importing at all.
Thanks for your reply its a different way to the one I am trying to do which is having the images on my desktop & then synch the images to the laptop so that I can do some editing with the changes being transferred back to the desktop. As usual there is more than one way to do things, yours being one I haven't seen before & one which I might try if I cant get the method I want to work.
Mine is a very simple method and a well used and recommended way
