After Effects using 5 GB ram for previewing a video 12 MB in size without any effects.

I have After Effects CC 2015 up to date.

      My system specifications are:

      Processor : i5 6500 3.2 Ghz

      RAM : 8 GB DDR4 2133 MHz RAM

Storage :256 GB SSD (On which After Effects is installed)

                     1 TB HDD

Graphics Card : Geforce GTX 970M 6 GB

All the drivers are up to date.

The problem is : I create a new project and import a video in it. The video has full HD resolution and is 12.5 MB in size. First of all it takes a minute to play the video from the RAM so that it starts playing in real time. Then, the video is in 30fps but the preview playback plays it at 60fps (The frame rate is set as 30 fps in composition settings). I saw the RAM usage in task manager and After Effects was using 5 GB of RAM. Then I applied an effect and the CPU usage went up to 100% and it took about 5 minutes to get the effect applied and after that After Effects crashed.

I am quite new to After Effects but I am also a tech geek. I tried playing around in the settings but it did not help. I also searched google and the forums but to no avail. This problem is basically making the software unusable for me. PLEASE HELP!!!
