What;s the Master Collection version? It may not be able to work under the new OS.
I don't know enough about Macs to know if this would work, BUT.... What if you partitioned the system drive and installed an older OS that goes with your Master Collection version?
If you're trying to use CS6, you have to update AE to version 11.0.4
But, you know, you might be trying to run CS4 for all we know!
Master Collection has about 17 Adobe Programs in it. Great value for all these high quality programs. Anyway needed the trial version of AE and the update to 11.0.4.

In a few years, when CS6 doesn't work on the new OS's, I think you'll find the Creative Cloud is an even better value than buying the Master Collection used to be since you get all of those programs and more for around $50 a month. Not only does it give you access to the latest versions of the entire suite, but you have access to all of the versions all the way back through CS6 AND you get the full power of all of Adobe's mobile apps (I really like Capture) AND you get all the TypeKit fonts AND you get Adobe Portfolio AND, well, lots of other stuff. In my opinion, if you're working with a team of people, the Libraries feature in CC is worth $50 a month by itself!
The downside to CC is that you have to keep paying or the software stops working. I mean, you keep your files, so it's not a big deal to restart a subscription if you need to "come out of retirement" to pick up "one last job", but it's still a minor annoyance at the back of the mind.
