Custom Popup Menu in Fireworks 8

    Duder29er
      Hi there,
I have been trying for about a week to create my own custom popup without using the popup wizard. I would like to do this because I want to make it transparant and add a little bit more to it. Anyway, I cant seem to make my menu stay put while I rollover the button it disappears. How do I make the menu stay put while I rollover the button? I have made many popups in Flash but id really like to do it in Fireworks 8. I was told it may have something to do with using a hotspot, but Im not real sure how to go about it. Is this possible? If so please help me out.

The graphics for your menus can be created in anything you want: FW, PS,
              PSP, etc.

The menus are layer-based and contain those graphics (or CSS styled text),
and are all done in DW. I believe that the tutorial really walks you
              through the whole process.

If you want to take another whack at them, then try these -

Check the uberlink and McFly tutorials at PVII
              ( http://www.projectseven.com/)

and the Navbar tutorial at Thierry's place ( http://www.tjkdesign.com)

                Thanks again for the reply.
Ok I have gone through the Tutorial many times, but it doesnt show how the submenus (hidden) where made. I would like to create these in fireworks if thats possible. If not, I dont see how to create it in DW. I was hoping to create a custom popup so that I could change the opacity so that it would be a little bit transparent. I just cant figure out how and where the hidden layer menu came from. I appreciate your response, thanks again!

I think you are still confused. You can create any graphic you want in FW.
You can use it in any way you want on a DW page. If you want a submenu, you
create a layer in DW, and place your button graphic in it, link the button
to the desired page, and apply your desired rollover. Then you hide the
                  layer. There's your submenu.

It seems the part you are missing is a clear understanding of DW/FW/HTML and
                  how they all fit together....

I am now able to open a new layer and insert a image I created in Fireworks... Although Im now a little stuck because Im not quite sure how to turn that image into my submenu. I wish the tutorials went more in depth of creating the submenu's from scratch. All I want to do is create my own submenu and allow it to be a little transparent but I am still unsucessfull. Thanks again Murray *ACE*!

You do not turn your image into a submenu.

You're not going to be able to do it with your approach.

But - show me what you are trying to do, please. I'm still pretty much in
the dark what it is you are trying to accomplish.

What I am trying to create looks alot like what is on http://www.reds.com
I like the look of the semi-transparent drop down menu. I am able to create this in FLASH, but I was hoping to be able to do it in Fireworks or Dreamweaver.

One way to do it would be to use a "tromp l'oeil". Create the submenu
graphics with fully opaque graphics that happen to exactly superimpose over
the background and LOOK like they are transparent. Another way would be not
to use graphics for your menus at all, but to use CSS styled text, with
opacity filters for a background color. But in either event, I believe you
will have to work outside your comfort zone at present. Just learn how to
create the menus first, and add the transparency later....
