i should also add within each folder i have subfolders for RAW and Export
To move the photos to a different HD:
- In your operating system, COPY (Not MOVE) the photos to a new HD, keeping the entire folder hierarchy unchanged
- In Lightroom, right-click on the top level folder and select Update Folder Location and then point to the new location of the top level (parent) folder
- When you are 100% sure this has worked properly, you can delete the photos on the original HD.
More details, and screen captures, are found in Part 2 of this document: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
Side issue: most people don't keep the exported photos, not only does this save hard disk space but it's less work than exporting everything
thank you, just what i needed to know!
So you would just keep the RAW files and work with them within LR only exporting when need too? And copy old folders for example to external HD then delete from mac HD?
I only export when I need the photo for some non-Lightroom use. And once I am done using the export outside of Lightroom, the export gets deleted.
And copy old folders for example to external HD then delete from mac HD?
I explained the procedure above.
