For some hints on the topic, go to Google Groups and search the archives
of this forum for the word brushed and author richiebee. I haven't seen
him around these parts much lately, and according to his website:

In a fit of irony, the web site lacks any graphic tarting up -
practically the entire subject matter of the previous incarnation
of the richiebee site. Fireworks users hoping to find those styles
are SOL. Last time I looked there were a few sites out there
passing off my styles as their own. I'm sure you'll find them all
          somewhere.

As it happens, if you go to the wayback machine ( http://archive.org/) and
pump in the site address ( http://richiebee.ca/), you may be able to get
          the styles he mentions.

Here are some brushed metal styles to play with. Download the zip
archive and install them. By applying them to vector objects you will be
able to see how they are created.

But you don't need a plugin to do brushed metal effects in Fireworks. :-)

Linda, How is this done without a plug-in in FirwWorks, do you have a tutorial on this?

                  Thanks,

If you install the styles as I directed, and then apply one of them to a
vector shape in Fireworks, you'll be able to see how they are done.
Basically, they are gradients and a texture.
