Has anyone written a plug-in to send a photo directly from the Library or Develop module to the current printer using the current template with a single click? Is it possible? (Cheeky question I know, but I've had a quick look at the SDK documentation and haven't yet found a reference to sending a file to the printer - I don't want to spend hours wading though and learning the language only to find it can't be done).
Any hints or tips would be welcomed. My issue is that, at events, we can show the customer the cropped and adjusted photo in the develop module, but then confuse them by going to the print module (where landscape photos are displayed rotated by 90 degrees) and then have to press the print button again, slowing the whole process down.
The SDK doesn't provide any methods for accessing print functionality, unfortunately.
A couple of ways to solve your particular problem:
1. Have your plugin use "keystroke stuffing" to send keystrokes to LR. On Mac, you could use Apple Script; on Windows, Autohotkey. Keystroke stuffing tends to be fragile and hard to make completely robust, but it might work well enough for your purposes.
2. Have your plugin export the photo to be printed to a TIFF, and then the plugin invokes a third-party utility to print the TIFF.
Thanks a lot - I was afraid that was the case. At least you saved me hours of wasted time trying to develop a plug-in!!
