I'm trying to improve my workflow as I now regularly switch between multiple machines to do my photo editing. To facilitate this I have moved my catalog to OneDrive and have OneDrive running and synced on all machines. Sometimes however I leave Lightroom open on one machines whilst I try and continue work on another and I've been concerned that this may be a bad idea. Can the catalog file handle being open in multiple instances at once or do I need to close Lightroom on one machine before using another?
Using an external HDD and carrying it between machines isn't an option for me.
No you cannot have a catalog open on more than one computer.
You are liable to corrupt the catalog and lose everything. The database is SQL lite which is single user...
You can try your idea of opening and closing on each machine as that may well work, people do use Dropbox for this. The key is knowing when a catalog is closed and has stopped being written to...
Thanks Geoff, that's pretty much what I expected the answer to be but thought I'd check. For now I'll make sure it's closed before opening on another machine and see how that goes.
