Yeah, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they stopped the whole 'render for free' thing.
If I'm wrong, please let me know. I would love to have my renderfarm back.
Both of your articles are in reference to CS 5.5 and were published in 2011. I'm using CC 2015. The two newer blog posts I linked in my original post state the exact opposite...
"After Effects CS5.5 had to be activated (serial number entered) on render-only machines due to licensing restrictions for certain codecs. See this post by After Effects product manager Steve Forde for more background about this.
In After Effects CS6 and later, you can now run aerender or use the watch folder functionality in a non-royalty-bearing mode, without activating the render-only instances of the application."
As far as CC 2015, it still doesn't work.
It is asking for a license. If I sign in on a render machine, then that machine will accept the job.
Even if the "ae_render_only_node.txt" is in the right place, I will get the error "Unable to obtain a license."
This thread has been forwarded to Adobes programmers for review, perhaps a definitive answer will follow.
Watch folder rendering is not available with After Effects CC 2015 (13.7). You can use Watch Folder rendering in After Effects CC 2014 (13.2) with projects saved by After Effects CC 2015 (13.7)
Please visit this post
use following link for setting up watch folder render:
How about network rendering without the watch folder?
I'm calling aerender.exe through a render manager and this render manager also handles other software jobs. If the watch folder method is used, then the After Effects Render Engine will pick up a job, even if another software is already using that machine.
The watch folder method isn't what we are asking about in this thread.
I have already read through all of the Help Documentation.
I just built and tested a After Effects CC 2014 13.2 installer. I am following the instructions you linked here. I am placing the ae_render_only_node.txt in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe and running the MSI installer.
When I check my team on Adobe.com, the device has reappeared indicating it is consuming a license again.
Place the file in document folder
I have tried AfterEffects CC, AfterEffects CC 2014, and AfterEffects CC 2015.
aerender version 13.5x347
aerender version 13.0x214
aerender version 12.0x404
And I have ae_render_only_node.txt in the following locations
It still consumes one of my licenses in all tests.
Any thoughts, Mr Kapoor?
anyone try any success with the newest releases this past week on this?
