If you move your mouse about 3 inches down from the top and to what seems to be the fourth column from the left,
you will see the arrow pointer change to the hand selector. Used to be that when the hand selector was active,
clicking on the mouse button would cause a pop-up menu to come up that would allow further choices.
Thank you so much for your assistance thus far.
It is a generally a Very Bad Idea to be using Fireworks in the first place to create the code for a website: it is not meant for that task - especially such an old version. Browsers expect a doctype at the top of your html, and adding one breaks your pages completely.
You should really consider redoing it properly in a modern editor. Even Muse is better than this.
Having said that, try this. Replace your fw_menu.js with the one located at
and test again.
I substituted the fw_menu.js that you suggested and there was no change.
I am unsure which direction to go at this point. In an nutshell, I have an underlying image to which I have to add my polygon areas. I
would like to have a mouse-hover event over one of these areas to bring up a list of items for which a click on an individual item may
cause a pdf to be displayed, a video to play, etc. The overall web site can be held together in a traditional way but I am more focused
right now on the individual page that I just described as the selector module for many document. I probably have 60 such pages that
i originally completed using an old version of Fireworks at least 8 years ago as you correctly pointed out. How do I know that 8 years
from now I won’t be right back in this same place… That said, what software would you use to construct these 60 “selection” pages
each of which might feature 6 to 16 hot zones?
Thank you for your advice
I do agree hand-coding all those pages is not an option. Let me think about this a bit more, and I will be back with an answer in a day, or so.
Many thanks. Also just so you know, this site should really expand to almost 5,000 such pages if the funding permits!

Thank you for your assistance,
One more question to decide on a workflow: will those pages be scanned in manually, or do you have access to pdf files (with vector based fonts preferably - no bitmaps)?
The layout of the central page is critical that it appear the way it is in the original text so I scan that in and
then I apply the polygon tool by hand to each area that needs to drive menu selections. When it works, I
hover over the selected area, a menu pops up that allows for a video explanation of the text or a text based
From page to page, the shape of the polygon areas differs greatly. So to answer your question the pages
are scanned in manually and processed manually.
Thanks again for your assistance.
