What do you mean by "linked images", exactly? Images in a PDF file are not links to external files. They're embedded in the PDF itself as content streams.
So there is an image on the afp share, embedded in the pdf. When you break connection to the old server and open the file in the new server the image does not show and the user reports getting a message about a missing/broken link. So I'm looking to find an automated way when they run into this that they can repoint to the correct image file on the new server without user searches.
So it's a link to an image, not an actual embedded image in the PDF, right?
Do you know whether the link is to a web-page URL or is it a file-link? Either way, though, it can't be done in Acrobat. It requires a stand-alone tool, like these tools I've developed:
