I'm working in a document (a magazine) that someone else created from a template. So who knows what weird stuff's lurking beneath the surface. I'm trying to do something really basic -- change the leading from 12 points to 13 points -- but for some reason, though it says 13 points, it jumps up to about double-spaced. I've tried making the change via the control panel and via the paragraph style, and no dice either way. I've either got supertight text or way too spaced out text. Any ideas what could be constraining the styling in this way?
Found it. It was the "align to grid" feature, which I'd never used nor seen before. Turned if off and am back in control of spacing!
You really need to learn InDesign, a baseline grid is so basic knowledge, I advise abook or some training.
