Yes. You can preload modules into memory before displaying.
Use ModuleManager class's load() method to load swf file into memory during creationComplete event of application.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't mean an swf like a web app module. I just need to load some images which are in the form of swfs , and if my application loads and is still waiting on images to come down the pipe the programmer of the app (me) looks pretty dumb.
So I was wondering if I could "Rube Goldberg" machine together some listeners and a few urlloaders which when all fired would let the application know it could proceed to the opening screen.
Just use a progress bar. If it takes a while to load, that's just the way it is, and the user knows that with a preloader. You can't load them any faster.
