LR saying that it can't move them.
Tell us the exact complete unedited word-for-word error message.
The error msg is
There was an error copying to the destination you selected. The following files could not be copied
Most likely, you do not have WRITE permission to the destination folder where the photos are going to be copied into. So go into your operating system and change the permissions on the folder to WRITE.
The WRITE permissions on the folder appear to be correct in that I have them.. When I try to move a folder to the external drive LR creates the folder and moves the xmp files but not the RAW files. I must have WRITE privileges if it can move the xmp files, correct?
So please clarify something ... you keep talking about moving photos, but Lightroom's error message talks about copying the photos. Moving and copying are different. Which is it really?
How are you performing this move or copy? Tell me the exact steps.
Also please confirm that the un-moved (or un-copied) RAW files are still in their original location and let us know.
Arrgh I'm so sorry dj_paige I've just found the problem.
Windows has changed drive letters on one of my external drives and I've been trying to move the files onto a full drive! No wonder the RAW files wouldn't move.
I'm so sorry for wasting your time and can only apologize for not noticing the problem yesterday, I can only put it down to my own tiredness at the end of a long day.
I'm now eating a large slice of humble pie and feeling rather stupid.
