My computer is filling up so I want to move all my photos and do my LR work from an external hard drive. I've been reading a few of the forums on moving everything. I've copied the folder my images are in to the external drive. I've also copied the Lightroom folder in Finder (containing the .lrdata and .lrcat stuff) to the external drive. If I delete these two folders from my computer and just locate them in LR from the external drive (when all the question marks pop up on the images) then will everything work as it did before?
I'm using LR 5.7.1 and OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. The hard drive is a 2TB Samsung M3 (if any of all that makes any difference).
Thanks in advance,
If you have copied the Lightroom Catalog and Lightroom Previews folder on to the external drive, so you may go ahead and delete the folder from the internal drive of your computer.
Also please make sure you have the Photos copied in the same folder structure as it was on your internal drive.
Once you launch Lightroom from the external drive, then you need to only reconnect the images in Lightroom with the images from external drive.
Thank you Tanuj, that was very quick and all seems to have worked without any issues.
You are Welcome, Glad to help.
