No, Windows OS upgrade prompt would not cause this issue.
Do you mean to say that the images do get imported but previews come up completely blank?
Or, do you mean that the images are not imported at all?
Could you please share which version of Lightroom do you have?
Yes please explain exactly what is blank, and what does "blank" mean; or better yet show us a screen capture.

I've noticed that when importing (using "Copy or Move"), within the Import dialog window, if you do not first choose a "Destination," the thumbnails don't show up and the import window is blank. Is this what you're seeing?
If so, just go to the right side panel, and choose a destination, and you should see the thumbnails for import.
As you can see when looking in my folders I selected 2 different folders, one has jpeg, the other is the raw pictures. They show in the folders but when I get into lightroom I click on import, find the same file and when I click on it nothing shows up. It doesn't give me any error messages, it doesn't show anything.
I have lightroom CC 2015.
Thanks for sharing the screenshots.
This is exactly what Mike mentioned in his post.
You need to choose the Destination panel in the right panel and expand it and that should bring up all images in the selected folder. .
Thank you so much!!!!
