How can I exclude an object from printing, but have it visible in a PDF using InDesign CC2015?

I'm looking for a way to make an object in my document visible when exported to PDF, but not print when the PDF is sent to a run-of-the-mill desktop printer.

I've searched high an low for an answer or solution, but there doesn't seem to be a way to do this anymore. The closest I've come to an answer is an idea from a 2009 thread on the Adobe Community forums discussing InDesign CS3. That solution is to turn my object into a button, which I've tried but have been unsuccessful in getting it to be visible in the PDFs but not print when sent to a desktop printer. The thread even says that the method described no longer works as of CS4, just one application iteration later.

There must be a way to do this! Can anyone help me figure this out?

      Thanks,
