What features of the Matrox HD codec do you need? If you're just needing a basic, lossless codec, you could render a QuickTime with the PNG codec. It's technically lossless and you can render with alpha if you need it.

It's the lossless and alpha options that we need. As long as we can do that I don't really care what the codec is!
So PNG is best? Is the Animation codec worth a go too?
It depends on what you're doing. If your video is mostly animations with flat areas of color (like traditional cell animation), the file sizes may be smaller.
I would suggest you try both options with the same composition. See which is faster to render for your system, which is faster to ingest for your system when you go to use it in your edit, and what the file sizes look like. Find out which one works the best for you.
