So this is a business card someone designed for me and when I open it up on Adobe Illustrator it's a white rectangle with the black wording in it. Just like a business card would look. But what I want to do is change the white background to black and then change the words to white. Now I don't have any problem changing the words to a different color, like filling in an object. I can do that, but I can't figure out for the life of me how to change the entire background from white to a different color.
The white background you are probably talking about is the art board, unless the artist placed a white box behind the Cappy Text (which you can just change the color to black).
go to Windows > Layers - this will open the Layers Toolbar. Press the down arrow which will show all elements. You will also see circles on the right side, by pressing that it will select that object/layer. Do you see the white rectangle? (the artist might have locked the layer, click on the padlock if the layer is locked). Select it and color drop it to black and change the text to white. If there isn't a rectangle you will need to make one
Let me know.... - Will
