Check the destination in your import panel. This error message occurs when you have selected a location where the files can not be written to. You probably selected a protected area of your startup disk. Make sure it is a location where you have permissions to write set correctly like in your own pictures folder.
I got it to work by completely uninstalling, including resetting all preferences which I didn't do the first time I reinstalled. I will make a note and update the thread. Thanks
