I'm currently developing a flash based application for
CD-Rom. Its purpose is to help kids learn a foreign language. There
are a number of quizzes to be taken, the reward for completing a
quiz fully or achieving a certain score (I'm not sure which yet)
will be the ability to acces some simple previously inaccesible
Flash games. I've seen tutorials using PHP to maintain a scoreboard
but as this is a CD-Rom application and ought to be simple for
users to use (they shouldn't have to set up PHP or MYSQL) I thought
maybe a scoreboard could be created with a log-in and password
using Flash external text files. Problem is I'm not sure how this
would work and am on a bit of a tight deadline. Hope this makes
sense and any help would be much apprecitaed.
A quick solution would be to use php, ruby or asp.net (mainly
which ever your server is set up for) and some sort of small
database like sqllite or mySQL to hold the info. Your application
could use a LoadVars object to send and load the scores.
Thanks for getting back to me Brandon,
I actually ended up using a shared object class as flash can
store this within itself and
as the cd-rom is intended to accompany a book, each kid who
has the book will have their own cd-rom.
Thanks again anyway
