Click on All Photographs in the Catalog panel on the left side.
There is only 97 showing from a catalogue I made last January. I am still semi new to Lightroom so I don't know how to look for the previous photos. Am I supposed to create a new catalogue everytime I import a new set of photos? And if I upload photos at different times without creating new catalogues, does it override the previous imports? I'm so confused.

McLion told you exactly how to look for previous photos.

No, you import ALL of your photos into a single catalog.
And if I upload photos at different times without creating new catalogues, does it override the previous imports?
No, McLion told you exactly how to find previous photos.
Here are some introductory materials you REALLY ought to read/view before continuing with Lightroom
I understand what he said. Where it says "All photos", only the 97 photos from last January are in there. I have 1300 wedding photos that I cannot find. It is not in the catalogue. I'm just going to import the photos again and start all over because I feel like I'm just wasting time trying to find these pictures. Everyone is telling me the same thing and I appreciate the feedback but when I try to do it, still no luck.

Possibly you have accidentally put the photos in a different catalog? Try File->Open Recent and select each catalog shown there, and see if any of them contain the photos you want.
Also, please do read or view the introductory tutorials that I linked to before you go ahead and try to do things on your own, or you may wind up back in the same unpleasant situation in the future.
Thank you for the links, I will study them. Also, when I went to file>open recent, the folder opens and it says "no items match your search :/
Do you mean a catalog opens and you see the words "no items match your search"? Or do you mean that in this menu item, the words "no items match your search" appear in the menu?
When I click file, open recent, a separate box opens- the libraries box, that came from my desktop. I just thought that all my photos would stay in Lightroom even before exporting them. I don't even have my computer with me right now since I'm at work so I am trying to explain this the best I can.
When you get back to your computer, see if you can come up with a better explanation and show us a screen capture as well.
I think you may have accidentally turned on a Filter, because that would produce the message "no items match your search" or something like that, and make it look like there are no photos when in fact there are photos.
