Don't celebrate yet. After weeks of searching, I'm still fudging things to get by. A friend with an older OS says he still has and loves it. Adobe says they don't support it anymore, so "of course" there could be errors. Not much of an answer.
My CS6 version now ... sort of ... works. But it doesn't do transparency about half the time. And, all the time I use the export wizard it errors out. I've uninstalled and reinstalled without a change. People keep telling me to use .png files, but not all browsers (or smartphones) can read them as animations. Photoshop now does something similar, but with less control over transparency dithering so it's only half an answer.
Adobe staff: I know you're trying to help, but just telling me where to download the old, unsupported application isn't a great answer.
Most of us here are not Adobe staff - merely users like yourself (and myself).
Fireworks is dead. It is as simple as that: development and support was halted back in May 2013, and the only remaining support is to be found on this very corner of the Adobe forums. It is sad, but true.
On the latest version of Mac El Capitan I would hesitate to install it at this point, because of its reliance on an outdated and insecure Java version, and even when installed, Fireworks has issues. For some users it sort-of works with caveats, for others it refuses to work at all.
On Windows Fireworks still works. But the software is quite old, and the lack of modern features as used in mobile and web design is really hurting Fireworks at this point.
Yeah, that's what I'm dealing with as well. So okay, old habits die hard, but can you suggest different software? I searched on-line and didn't find much of anything for animated transparent GIF production.
Windows or Mac, or both?
