I think there's something wrong on your system. I don't experience that at all.
What operating system are you running?
Have you tried restoring your InDesign preferences? Here's a link for how to do it:
The only way of fixing it is to reset the preferences, yes. But doing it daily seems like it isn't the answer, but it's the only work around I've got. CC2014 doesn't behave like this.
You shouldn't have to do that daily. That means there is either corruption in your system user, or third-party software which is conflicting with InDesign.
Create a new user on your computer in System Preferences > Users & Groups. Boot into the new user. Launch InDesign before opening anything else. If it works, that means your old system (or the software in it) is the problem.
These days, the most common conflicts are caused by browser plug-ins (Chrome plugins seems to be a culprit frequently.)
