Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like exact folder structure and save locations.

I'm having the same issue with AE and recently with Premiere Pro. (apps are up to date)
Whenever I have to change the destination folder in the media export dialog those apps crashes. If I try to "Save as" my project in AE it also crashes and quits and I actually lose all my unsaved work. (For the moment the work around I found is making a copy in the project's folder prior to editing in AE, so I can "Save" and not lose the previous version, too annoying though when you actually are supposed to have a "save as" function).
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Windows 10 Pro 64bit
after a long time spent on research and tests I seem to have found a solution that fixes (at least for me and at least for now) the "save as" crash. Apparently it's a permissions-related problem.
Here's what I did:
1- Locate to the following folder:
2 - Un-check "read-only" in the context menu for the folder "Adobe"
3 - Inside "Adobe" folder deleted the "After Effects" folder (very important).
4 - Launch AE again and "save as" after editing a project does not cause a crash
I found that Adobe can crash on several applications and occasions because of permissions-related issues and I'd like to ask the same question :
Hope this helps you, too.
This worked for me.
