My project won't burn to a DVD, only a Blu-ray

    masteryoda21

      I have made a project from a 1920 x 1080 video (HD).

When I try to burn to DVD, I get transcoding error.

I can successfully burn to Blu-ary with no problem.

If I digitize the blu-ray video in 856x480 resolution and create a new project, I still can't burn to DVD, only Blu-ray.

      See attached.

Can I burn 1920x1080 video to DVD?  And if so, how?Export&Share.png

Does your burner have the latest firmware?

why 856x480 that is not a standard frame size.

At what point do you get a transcoding error? Before it even starts, partway through or near the end?

Do you have any Stop Markers on your timeline? A stop marker at the end of your movie can cause problems.

Do you have any gaps on your video track? That can cause problems too.

What operating system do you have? Which processor do you have and with how much RAM? How much free, clean, defragmented space is on your hard drive?

              856x480 is 16:9 aspect ratio for standard def.     640 x 480 would squeeze my original of 1920 x 1080 from 16:9 to 4:3.

My burner has the latest firmware and has no problem burning any other material to disc.

As a related question: How can I stretch 640 x 480 video to 16:9 aspect ratio to burn on a DVD?

The transcoding error begins almost immediately when I start to burn.

I have one stop marker at the end of the first chapter.

I have two chapters in my movie.

                Illustration:

                [start marker]chapter 1[stop marker][start maker]chapter 2

There a no gaps in my video track.

Remember the 1920 x 1080 video burns perfectly on  Blu-ray, but not on DVD.

I also tried this test with the unedited 1920 x 1080 video, one block of video, one chapter and it would burn to Blu-ray, but not DVD.

                Windows 7

                Intel Core i7 -960 processor (8MB L3 Cache, 3.2GHz)

                20 Gb RAM

200 Gb free space on solid state hard drive.   I did not inspect it to find out how much was defragmented.

It sounds like you are grasping at straws.

                Just try a simple test:

                1) Add HD (1920 x 1080) video into a project

                2) Attempt to burn it as a Blu-ray

                3) Attempt to burn it as a DVD

I'm not sure why this would happen, yoda. Essentially the same mechanisms go into making a DVD as go into making a BluRay.

Try this: Do a Save As and save your project under a different name and in a different directory folder. This won't affect your project at all -- but it will give Premiere Elements a "clean slate" for creating your DVD transcoding files.

Then select the option to save your DVD to a folder on your hard drive rather than directly to a disc. Make sure that the folder you're burning these files to has no other files in it.

I tried what you suggested.   See attached images.

                    It failed almost immediately.

I do have to add one correction, the video I was editing is 1280 x 720 in resolution.

                    Check it out for yourself.

                    1) Add HD video to the editor

                    2) Create a menu

                    3) Burn to DVD

The process will fail with the a transcoding error almost immediately.Burn to hd.pngTranscoding error.png

It works just fine for me, Yoda.

But if you'd like, you can send me your video and I'll be glad to try it on my computer and see if I can burn a DVD. Just output your project using Quick Export (This will produce a 1280x720 MP4) and share it using Dropbox.com or Google Drive to me at my first name at muvipix dot com.

Ok, I checked my old projects that burned to DVD in the past, and now they don't.

I get the immediate "Transcode error" message when I try to burn them.

                        Any suggestions?

I'm thinking of re-installing Premier Elements 13 and testing it.

Just what I've suggested so far.

Okay, here is the correct solution:

                            1. Uninstall Premier Elements
                            2. Reinstall Premier Elements
                            3. Premier Elements will now burn HD video onto a DVD

Now this solution could have been arrived at with a lot more cooperation and a lot less finger pointing and blaming.

Asking me to attempt to burn an older project to DVD that previous burned successfully would have lead to a correct decision more quickly.

                            Rather than long-shot questions like:

Does your burner have the latest firmware?

Do you have any gaps on your video track?

What operating system do you have? Which processor do you have?

Why 856x480 that is not a standard frame size?

And: select the option to save your DVD to a folder.

The scientific process lead to solutions much more quickly than grasping at straws and blaming.
