I have a MacBook Pro with a solid state drive that doesn’t have enough space to store my photos, so I want to put all my photos on a small 2 TB external HD. Question: When I go to import my photos from the camera card to Lightroom, how do I put and keep all the photos on the external HD? Can you please tell me how I set up the HD to do this….! I know it’s probably not hard, but I want to do this correctly. Thanks so much for your help.
Setting up an external hard drive is really quite straightforward, I think. Of course, it has to be connected to your computer. When you open the import dialog and start setting up your preferences, you should see the external hard drive as one of your choices. You can highlight the external hard drive, and then choose to import your images to a subfolder which you will name. Then all you should have to do is import the images and they will be imported to the external hard drive.
If you already have pictures on your system drive imported into LR you'll need to use the procedure as outlined in this video: How to Copy Files to an External Hard Drive in Lightroom « Julieanne Kost's Blog
