Which software are you using?
NOTE: this is not a product forum.
It's the Creative Community Connections Forum.
I think he's referring to After effects because I am having the same problem. I'm fairly new with this program but I have some high profile clients because a close friend set it up and I have a deadline approaching in days and I'm on the verge of a meltdown over this simple thing lol please help
Change your workspace to paint so you can expand the panel.
it's the stacked panels view you are in that can obscure some features.
you need to open you panel all the way down
stacked panels for me is less intuitive. also, like this example, panels can get narrow without relation to overlapping panels. I have not grown used to it and I use the classic panels setting. you can work the classic way by unchecking this
Once you get used to working with stacked panels (and have dragged all of them to the sizes you want), I prefer using the stacked panels on small screens (like my MacBook Pro).
But, yeah, those panels don't make it obvious when there's more to the panel. I'd highly recommend filing a bug report on this (with screenshots to demonstrate). This may not be a bug in the program code, but it IS a bug in the UI. At least, the After Effects team considers stuff like this a bug. They want the software to work for you and if the UI is preventing that, they want to fix it. You don't have to be a beta tester to file bug reports either, if you're a normal person, you can file them here. The more people who file, the better.
Stacked panel problems aside I personally think that using workspaces is the way to go. I switch workspaces several time when I'm working on a project and I have set up a half dozen custom workspaces of my own. There is a really well designed Paint workspace already set up. It's the one that I use for that task and it tales one click to get there:
