Exactly which version of InDesign are you using? The current version is 2015.3 (11.3). What operating system? Have you tried restoring your InDesign preferences?
Thanks for your quick response.
I am using InDesign 11.3 (126.96.36.199 x64), the operating system is Windows 10 64-Bit Version 1511 (10586.318).
Resetting the preferences seems to have resolved the issue thanks.
But now I lose all my preferences and have to manually go back in and reset everything to how it was.
I guess once I go through that process I need to back up my "working" preferences so they can be restored in future?
Should I expect this to happen on a regular basis? It seems like an awful lot of effort to manage preferences in this way.
FYI - Trying the keyboard method of resetting is impossible for me (Intel 750 SSD and fast CPU/MEM means very little start time)
Many thanks again, I really appreciate your assistance.
If you notice the description of how to restore preferences, they are stored in certain files. You can now make a backup of those files so if you have a glitch like this again, you can replace those files with your clean backup.
Normally, you shouldn't have to restore InDesign preferences very often. If you do, there may be other system or third-party problems which you'll need to look into.
Excellent, thanks Steve i have made backups of the working copies so I can restore if needed in future. I guess the only preference related thing I would lose reverting to an old backup is the list of recently opened docs which is mildly annoying, but not something I can't resolve.
