I have an InDesign file with a linked excel file attached which holds the data for a table. The excel file has hyperlinks in it, hundreds of them, and they appear correctly in the InDesign file and the outputted PDF as working links. It is all linked perfectly and when I make changes to the excel file, these are reciprocated in the InDesign.
FOR THE LIFE OF ME I CANNOT REMEMBER HOW I DID THIS!
I have tried to replicate this in a new file and whenever I place the excel file into InDesign, it only places the text and does NOT include the hyper links. Even when I place an excel file into the existing, working, file - it doesn't keep the hyperlinks! It must be something to do with the way I am placing it ??
TL;DR - How do I place an excel file and keep the hyperlinks that are in it?
file > place > tick "Show Import Options"
then in the window "Microsoft Excel Import Options" > Formatting > Table > choose "Formated table"
Are you placing an .xls or .xlsx? If you're using the newere .xlsx, try saving the Excel file as the older .xls and importing that. InDesign is much happier importing those than the newer variety.
Thank you. when I slowed down and followed your steps it worked first time.
