AFAIK, Win 10 does not harm the card - at least it never did on my PC's.
It puts some hidden folders - like MAC OS as well actually.
How about connecting the camera by USB with the card inserted for this time and import from camera?
I could format to solve the problem - just don't want to lose photo's.
Any ideas ?
If you have already copied the images from the card to either your Mac or Windows PC formatting the card in the camera won't lose those images. They are already stored on one of your computers and can be copied or moved from that computer to any other you might have.
To my knowledge using either a card reader to or connecting a camera to either type of computer to copy and import image into LR doesn't change the card format, add any files to the card or change it in any other way. Although Mac OS X might add the ._DSstore hidden folder to any drive it accesses. I haven't used a Mac in a couple of years so I don't remember if that happens all the time.
I think there is something else going on you aren't telling us or details you have purposely left out.
Did you format the SD card using a computer at any time?
To clear images off the SD card always format with the camera.
