What happens when you try to open Lightroom?
Do you receive any sort of error message?
Which operating system do you have: Windows or Mac?
Which files did you move: original images or Lightroom Catalog or some other files?

Lightroom 6 won't open. I was running low on disk space so I went to move files to external hard drive and now I can't open Lightroom. If I move LR to trash and reinstall will my library still be there?
I have a wedding to process. Help!
What files did you move? Did you move your catalog file? Can you move everything back to exactly where it was and see if things work?
What do you mean Lightroom won't open? Exactly what happens? What is the error message? Please quote the error message word-for-word.
When I launch LR it won't open. Just sits there doing nothing!
I'm on Mac. No error message.
I didn't get a chance to move files as it won't open but when I do I export originals to ext hard drive.
No error message.
When I open the program it does nothing. The annoying little wheel just sits there spinning and tormenting me.
I can't make space if I can't open.
My initial thought is that I should re-install LR but I'm concerned that I will lose my catalogue.
I don't think everything is on ext HD. Most is.
The problem is that as soon as the LR startup page appears I can't do anything at all.
The wheel spins (you know the one I mean?) and I have to quit LR to access anything at all.
Therefore I can't reset preferences.
Do you think I should move LR to the trash and re-install?
You can reinstall Lightroom and that would not affect your catalog.
Though I would still suggest to reset preferences first. Follow these instructions to reset preferences without launching the program:
- Open Finder
- Click on Go menu and choose Go to Finder
- Type ~/library and hit Go
- Open Preferences folder
- Look for com.adobe.Lightroom6.plist file and move it to desktop or rename it to com.adobe.Lightroom6-old.plist
- Launch Lightroom if it opens fine.
If not fine, then you can go for reinstallation.
Thank you Chetna. I'll give it a go.
You do not have to open this file.
Just move it from the Preferences folder to your desktop.
Chetna you have probably realised by now that this is all a complete mystery to me.
Once on my desk top - then what?
Once you have moved that file to desktop, just launch Lightroom and check if it opens fine.
I will try trashing LR and reinstalling.
Stay with me :-)
All up and running now after reinstall.
Thank you for your help Chetna
Glad to know you got it working
