CS6 on Windows 10 crashes on all Postscript imports (PDF, AI, EPS ...)

I have a new installation of Indesign CS6 (updated to version 8.1. Installed as part of CS6 Design Standard) on a clean new Windows 10 machine.

Everything works perfectly except when any Postscript-based import takes place, either when opening an existing INDD file containing links or importing the element into a new page. I have tried importing old EPS files, PDF files and newly-generated EPS files from Illustrator CS6, and the behaviour is the same for all.

The preview works, the import options appear and can be set, but once it actually tries to import the image InDesign keels right over.

I have set Compatibility Options for InDesign to Windows 7, which makes no difference.

I have not yet tried an uninstall and clean reinstall.

This is the first time I have installed CS6 on a Windows 10 machine: it feels like a postscript interpreter issue.

I have not yet tried an uninstall and clean reinstall.

      Any ideas or experiences!?

      Thanks,
