Is there some way of using XML for this ?
I don't believe you'll get Flash to talk directly to Excel, and I didn't see
in Excel that it accepted XML, but I don't have the latest version either.
With a wrapper app you could output a text file with the data and then have
your users import that into Excel. With Director you could import your Flash
interface and then talk directly to Excel with the Rosetta Xtra (see:
http://xtras.calu.us/docs/rosetta/microsoft_excel.htm). There are some other
xtras for this as well.

I did have a poke around, but found it most likely not to work ... as you have said.
I know there are pitfalls with this approach, but until i find another better solution, this one will have to do.
For anyone interested in the program ...
I'm more interested in the calculations. Flash isn't terribly fast with calculations – something which makes real-time 3D difficult, but shouldn't be a problem for what it seems you are doing. So what is it?
The problem was a complicated calculation in Excel that used input data and several fixed data and calculation cells from 3 sheets in the spreadsheet. I'm ok with the calculations in terms of maths, but was having a real problem in getting my head around the way Flash could do it.
In the end I chose to utilise the program mentioned above and modified an HTML page to suit the look of my client's site.
Did you want to know what calculations ? Or how I arrived at my solution ?
I'm not sure can provide the calc's as they contain proprietory info, but I'll see wha t the client says. Msg me if that's what you are after.
I'd love to find a FLASH solution to this problem but I didn't have time to in this instance.
