Mac OS X 10.9.5, Safari 9.1.1

I had Adobe Acrobat Reader DC v. 15.016.20041 (According to the crash report)

Kept crashing: “The last time you opened Acrobat Reader, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?”

So, I uninstalled it.

1) Trashed Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.app from Application folder

2) From Macintosh HD/Library/Internet plug-Ins:

Trashed:

AdobePDFViewer.plugin

AdobePDFViewer NPAPI.plugin

3) From Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe:

Trashed:

Reader Folder

HelpCfg Folder

4) From Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences:

trashed :

Com.adobe.acrobat.pdfviewer.plist

5)  From Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences:

trashed:  com.adobe.reader.DC.WebResource.plist

6) From Macintosh HD/Users/~my name/Library/Application Support/Adobe:

Trashed:

Acrobat Folder

7) From Macintosh HD/Users/~ my name/Library/Preferences

Trashed:

com.adobe.ARM.plist

com.adobe.Reader.plist

Com.adobe.crashreporter.plist

8) Restart Mac

So, I think I completely uninstalled it. Now to reinstall it.

I D/L Adobe Acrobat Reader DC from:

https://get.adobe.com/reader/

Web page stated:

“Your system:

Mac OS (Intel) 10.5.8 - 10.11, English”

I D/L & began the installation.

Got error message Pop up:

“Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Found a higher version Adobe Acrobat DC in the install location. Installation will terminate.”

Only 1 choice “OK.” & then Web page stated:

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC did not install successfully

================================================================

What do I do now?

Thanks!

Apparently enabling the root user fixed the installation issue.

Thanks.

Hi Iconoclastmac ,

Please refer to this article :- Troubleshoot Adobe Acrobat Reader installation on Mac OS

If the issue still persist, please check with the different user account with Admin Rights to replicate the issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Yatharth,

Thanks for your reply.

I had seen that article b4 I posted. It is no help.

Did you read through my post detailing my problem?

I think I correctly deleted the old Acrobat

I think I correctly D/L the new version (Do you disagree?)

For some reason the Acrobat installer ‘thinks’  I have a newer version of Acrobat DC already on my computer but, I do NOT have ANY version.

I do not understand:

“ If the issue still persist, please check with the different user account with Admin Rights to replicate the issue.”

I checked & in:

Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe:

ARMDC folder has Application folder with:

Acrobat Update helper.app

AcrobatUpdateHelperLib.dylib

AcrobatUpdaterUninstaller

Adobe Acrobat Updater.app (note: this file has a circle with a line though it to the left! I assume it means this app is not working)

Registered Products Folder with:

Com.adobe.ARMDCHelper.plist

Com.adobe.reader.dc.plist

Com.adobe.reader.servicesupdater.dc.plist

Have ARMNext folder with:Application folder with:

AcrobatUpdateHelperLib.dylib

So, should I trash any or all of these files & any of those folders?

Then perhaps try again to install using that same acrobat installer?

Is there any issue with the version I am attempting to install? I do have Safari 9.1.1.

Since the Adobe D/L page seemed to recognize my computer & said:

“Your system: Mac OS (Intel) 10.5.8 - 10.11, English”

I assumed this was the correct version for me.

Do you disagree?

Regards,

Steve

It does not appear as if you have read any of my posts.

You respond as if I posted:

“Have Mac cannot install Acrobat.”

Is there anyone else reading these forums who knows how to install Acrobat on a Mac?

I have the same issue. My god what is going on that support would ask you to create a root user and try installer from there??? Are they out of their freaking minds? I swear Adobe does not know what either hand is doing.
