i've seen the problem and, while inconvenient, have found it's manageable by noting the hex code, typing it in when the color is 'lost' and copying and then repeatedly pasting and pressing enter until the color is accepted.
Thanks for the advise Kglad. That might be ok for a quick workaround, but it's just not practical if you are jumping between colours a lot. Also it interferes with anything else you might need to keep copied in your clipboard. Like other artwork for example. Seems to me like not being able to 'Pick' with the colour picker makes the colour picker a bit redundant. If you have noticed the problem too, i guess that means its not a problem with my setup. It's a software issue.

it's not a consistent problem for me. i've just noticed it before and worked around it.
if that's a consistent problem for you first:
reset your preferences - http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/re-create-preferences-flash-professional.html
if that fails:
uninstall animate cc
clean your computer of animate cc files per http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
restart your computer (don't skip this)
reinstall animate cc
Yes its a very persistent problem. And unfortunately i have to use the colour picker a lot.
There are no intrustions of how to recreate the preference file for Animate CC. Only goes up to CS6.
When i try to find the file here.../User/<user name>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5.5/<language>/
...there is no Flash CS5.5 Folder, or even an Animate folder. Theres no Language folder anywhere either.
In othere words i've gotten as far as /User/<user name>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/..........then don't know where to go.
I will try re-installing. If that doesn't work I think I will move to ToonBoom.
i don't know where the files are stored on a mac os.
see if the shortcut reset works.
