I have the same question only mine won't even open. It just pops up with the "Lightroom quit unexpectedly" error message. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled but still the same error. Please Help!
Did you uncheck the option for "Use graphics processor" under the preferences, performance tab?

Also try to uninstall and reinstall Lightroom once if the above does not help.
Disabling the GPU acceleration seem to work.
I consider this a work-around.
One can assume that graphics acceleration for graphics applications should be supported by default, today.
Is this a known bug and will/can it be fixed?

That depends on the graphic card you are using. You need to make sure to use the latest driver for your card - download from the manufacturer webpage, not Windows update.

In addition, LR does gain more speed from a fast CPU and enough RAM as well as a SSD, to some extent. The GPU only is of much use with high resolutions like 4k or alike.
