It does not work for Lens Corrections.
Lightroom has no information to use from the photo to place in the white areas.
As far as I know this specific issue is not a Lightroom issue, all photographic software that I am aware of does this when Lens Corrections are applied.

I always thought that the 'funny' edges of
panoramas was the result of lens corrections to the individual files.
As far as I can see the intelligent fill facility
uses the internal image data to extrapolate and fill the 'funny'edges.
It's the same problem then panorama photos. Intelligent fill works only with certain types of images. It can for sure not recontruct the world with no information.
