Hi billa ,
Please right click on Lightroom icon on desktop and select "Run as administrator"
Also make sure that Lightroom CC is up to date.
You could also refer the solution mentioned in the article Lightroom CC 2015/6 in Windows with exception code 0xc0000409 in the faulting module MSVCR120.dll, after the Lightroom C… and install the update for Microsoft C++.
Let us know if that helps.
Didn't work for me...
Hi Bergink ,
Are you running Lightroom CC/6?
What is your OS?
Yes I have the Photography subscription with LR + PS CC.
PS works fine but LR doesnt start anymore...
Tried everything what is mentioned on the internet, but no solution..
I work with Windows 10.
Things I hope you have tried:-
- Running Lightroom as an Administrator.
- Signing out of CC App and signing back in(with all CC Apps Closed.)
- Uninstalling/Reinstalling Lightroom.
- Ensuring that your Graphics card drivers and Lightroom are up to date.
- Reiterating on Lightroom CC 2015/6 in Windows with exception code 0xc0000409 in the faulting module MSVCR120.dll, after the Lightroom C… as this has been identified as the major cause of this issue.
Yes I tried all of them. Also reinstalled the Visual Basic C++ 2012 module..
KB3140741: Update voor Windows 10 Version 1511 voor x64-systemen
KB3152599: Update voor Windows 10 Version 1511 voor x64-systemen
These updates were carried out by Microsoft.
I am assuming that the W10 (1511) update is due to to the problems.
The laptop I use was bought new with W10 on it. I didnt update straight away W10,
but installed LR CC 2015. After 1-2 weeks or so the automatically update of W10
took place and I think that this caused conflicts with LR CC2015.
I am now trying to reinstall my laptop from scratch. First updating W10 to the 1511 version
and then installing LR CC2015 again...
I'll keep you informed about the results..
Thanks for the update.
I also believe this is due to the updates.
Keep us updated.
In regard to 'Things I hope you have tried'
Number 1 - Tried that.. no luck
Number 2 - Don't have a clue what you are talking about. (Lightroom is the only app I'm trying to open... unless you count the CC update manager that runs at startup)
Number 3 - Tried that... no luck
Number 4 - Graphic card says it's up to date. Lightroom CC won't open so I don't know what version I have.
Number 5 - C++ reinstall? Have not tried this as I don't know if it will cause problems with other programs. I'm not getting any error code. When I try to open Lightroom CC they system does nothing... maybe I shouldn't say that. After I try to open Lightroom CC my browsers all become slow to respond. I reboot the system and they are fine.
Still haven't seen anything that makes sense why CC won't open when the 5.7 version still on my system does.
Well, I can tell you that in my case Lightroom CC 2015 is working again!
Glad I am. Also the catalog is undamaged and can be used again.. Pfff.
So my suspicion that the 1511-update of Windows 10 was the malfactor
can be confirmed....at least in my case.
So check your Windows updates when he updated the "1511 update" and
check if LR was still working afterwards.
You talk about the 1511 update??? My windows 7 machine was upgraded to Windows 10 just a few weeks ago. Wouldn't it make sense that my Windows 10 installation would include any update that was made in November of 2015?

when your computer is upgraded to win10 a few weeks ago, it is possible that the 1511-update came after the Lightroom installation...
i would suggest that you also reinstall Win10 and immediately aftewards update to the latest version.
Then you can reinstall Lightroom again. Takes a day work for all the reinstallations, but it works fine now (for me now, at least).
Alright... after evaluating several proposed solutions I was still stumped.
Especially the one that had you deleting the Microsoft C++ Runtime Package, which as far as I can see consists of 20 separate programs on your computer and is listed as Microsoft Visual C++, so I don't know if that is the same thing. Some of are not programers and don't understand all that tech stuff, so you have to be real specific.
Anyway... This afternoon I was looking at something... don't remember where, but it suggested that you install a 2012 update 4. I downloaded that program and when I ran it it asked if I wanted to uninstall or repair... I choose repair.
I needed to be somewhere else so I have been gone for several hours. Got home and decided to click on the Lightroom CC... to my amazement it opened up and seems to be working as it should.
I hope this helps someone else who is experiencing similar problems with the Win 10 upgrade.
Having the same issue. Photoshop CC (2015.5) opens and runs fine. Lightroom CC (2015) won't launch and no error codes are generated. I see the process in task manager, but it never opens. Windows 10 Pro with latest updates applied. No luck.
After trying most of the "solutions" offered what finally WORKED was a very quick repair install of C++ 2012 update 4!!!
Thanks to bills32770!
How did you install the C++ 2012 update 4 update?? im still haing troubles with this as i just upgraded my lightroom.
We do you do that update?
