    Flex vs Webstart

Our company is currently investigating technical possibilities for developing a RIA connecting to an existing Java (JBoss) server application. The current UI (HTML) is outdated and not flexible enough. From my point of view (GUI designer) Flex seems to meet our requirements. Because the GUI has to present complex data structures in a clear way I like to use a dynamic environment that users can modify to meet their tasks.
Java Webstart seems another possibility with the same advantages. And one main advantage of Webstart is that you don't need to purchase something like Flex Data Services for advanced data connectivity with the server.
Does anyone has experience with both techniques and does anyone know what we should investigate before making this choice?
